Rettes at Camp Show Offs

 

It’s been a busy summer for Summer.  She had one camp/trip after another for the whole summer.  This week’s camp, RangeRette Jazz Camp was the last camp.  Whew!  I’m glad to have her home even though life most certainly won’t be slowing down any time soon.

At camp they took all kinds of classes like jazz, contemporary, hip hop, and even salsa!  We showed up on the last day to see the dances and cheer our dancers on.  What a fun, energetic  performance it was!  Summer really seemed to enjoy her dances and smiled and bounced on and off the court.  It was nice to see.  She deepened some of her friendships with the Rettes girls during this time, too.  Her roommates couldn’t have been better if I’d handpicked them for her.  When they weren’t dancing or eating they were dancing some more. 

Camp really brought the team together.  I can’t wait to see them dance this football season. 

The camp gave out ribbons to girls who showed a great attitude and those who worked really hard in their classes.  It was called the Star Dancer award… My sweet Summer girl got one… and she said they tried to give her two!  I’m proud of this girl.  And it’s a joy to see her so excited about this new adventure we call drill team!

While this picture was taken last summer, it pretty much sums up D.R.A.M.A. around here.  It is also very short-lived, but very intense while it lasts…

she’s a girl… so when will she learn to speak her 20,000 words a day?

     

Okay, here’s where you all find out that deep down I really am a numbers nerd. 

I typed approximately 500 characters. 

Summer typed approximately 200 (and that’s only because I counted her bootie-texting 5000000000000005623(53$1). 

Yes, I counted.  Sort of.  It’s not an exact number, but it’s close.

I typed 250% MORE than she did.  It’s like pulling teeth, getting information out of her.

Well, at least I’m getting my money’s worth with unlimited texting, right?

wednesday’s everyday moment…

I should have started doing this a long time ago… I tend to take pictures regularly with my iPhone, of regular, everyday moment kind of things, and then all I’ll do is upload them to Facebook without much of a story behind them.  Maybe, MAYBE, this will be a good way to keep me blogging… Probably not, but it’s worth a try.

We’ve been talking about getting a library card all summer, especially since SuperGirl NEEDS to work on her reading skills.  We just haven’t gotten around to doing it.  Monday we tried, but we had some… ahem… drama at the house and we didn’t get to go.  This morning, SuperGirl worked with me on some worksheets and practiced writing her name really neat so I told her that today was the day! 

The process took a little longer than we expected but after filling out papers, showing ID, signing our names, and getting a lecture on the cost of lost items/cards and late fees, she was presented with her very own library card.  She would NOT let me put the card in my wallet as she looked for books.  In typical SuperGirl fashion, she insisted on carrying the card until she checked out, which, of course, she did unassisted. 

Two books later, SuperGirl was one happy camper.  She read the whole way home and then promptly turned on the television.  I can’t win. 

well, i guess it’s official…

Summer had drill team practice and received the rest of her gear, her RangeRette duffle bag, and this little gem.  If it’s on my car, it must be official!  It’s silly how excited I was about getting this decal. 

We’ve met with the team, had dinner with the parents, and sent the girls off to camp for a couple of days.  At dinner, we watched videos of pep rallies, camp, and half time.  I don’t think Summer realizes how much fun she is going to have with this.  I got giddy when they showed the half time videos and I realized that the song they enter the field to is the same song my high school used…  I can still hear that song after playing it for three years and “strutting” out the fourth.  What fun.  I’ve got to dig up some pictures from 1987…

Summer (the season, not the person) is winding down around here and though the fall looks BUSY, it should be loads of fun!

Pappap and Albertsons!

SuperGirl LOVES to pop in to Albertsons to say hi to Pappap.  We usually have to look and look for him (sometimes in the freezer) but today he was out in the open, in the cheese section!  He was very busy today, getting an order in before he headed out, so we didn’t get to visit too long.  But still, it was nice to see his face, hug his neck, and see his smile.
