Every Sunday night we eat popcorn for dinner. SOME Sunday nights we eat it while sitting in laundry baskets.

Perfectly painted piggies… and she can’t wait to show them off at school next week! Whew… I thought she was going to refuse to go!

I have been trying for weeks to get a picture of this guy. There are actually several of them out there but the minute I venture onto the porch they fly off! I absolutely love this time of year. This is just one of the many reasons!

What, you don’t have “birthday pie” at your house? One of Hubby’s favorites is lemon chess. I usually only make it at Thanksgiving. But we thought he would enjoy his favorite pie for his birthday, too, this year.

Words cannot express how proud I am of this girl. She choreographed and performed a solo at competition this year. That fact alone amazes me. But add in that she did that solo in front of a filled set of bleachers blows me away. She didn’t win any trophies, but she did earn a first division on her solo… she’s #1 in my book!!

While we’re discussing things… let’s go here.
I have three daughters. We go through a lot of toilet paper. This drives my husband mad. But that’s a story for another day.
Usually I use my own bathroom. It’s for my own sanity, really. But sometimes I’m just closer to the girls’ bathroom (and I should probably take a look at how horrible the mess is in there) so I use their “facilities.” And I kid you not, EVERY TIME I GO IN THERE I HAVE TO PUT THE TOILET PAPER ON THE HOLDER.
Do you see how close the empty roll is to the trash can? I mean, you’re sitting there. You have nothing else to do. You went to the effort to get a new roll. PUT IT ON THE HOLDER!!!
But no. This, is the holder they choose…
What’s really nice is seeing a roll like this with an empty one right next to it. Seriously???

Let’s discuss this…
1. There appears to be more butter in there than there actually was. I scraped and scraped to get enough butter for one piece of toast. WHO used this last and returned it to the refrigerator? And how am I supposed to know we are out of butter if you put the empty container back in the fridge?
2. Now, speaking of returning the butter to the fridge… In our refrigerator there is a drawer in which the butter, cream cheese, and sour cream live. They ALWAYS go in that drawer. So why am I always moving the butter from random places within the refrigerator to said drawer? I know I’m the only one who cares, but this is not difficult.
3. why, WhY, WHY are there crumbs in the butter tub? If you’re going to touch the butter to the toast and then go back for more that is fine with me. Really, it is. I do it. But at least get the butter that has your crumbs on it! This is not hard. I promise. It just takes a some precise maneuvering of the knife and not just poking the thing in there and scooping out what you want.
4. Don’t even get me started that this container is not recyclable in my town. Do you know how hard it is for me to throw this thing in the trash? It has a recycle symbol on it but it can’t be recycled here. I’m no tree hugger, but I try to do my part. And no, I’m not going to use it as a container for something else. Not gonna do it.

SuperGirl… dressed for Awana pajama night… killing time until it’s time to leave. What, you mean as a kid you never rode your bike in the back yard grass dressed in pajama pants, slippers, and a robe? Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it!

This is not Hubby. But he "conveniently" took the lights down while I was away from the house... And my camera. That was going to be my picture of the day. So please, look at this picture and just try to imagine Hubby, taking the lights off our house the first Saturday in March. I know, I know, he was busy the last eight Saturdays working Upward, but hey, a girl needs to have some fun, even if it is at her spouse's expense!!

SuperGirl decided that she wanted to ride her bike to the school. She’d planned all week to do it on Saturday since her daddy would be home and he was the one who had been talking it up. Of course there was a rain storm and COLD front that blew in overnight…
Hubby told her to walk outside and feel how COLD it was. She wasn’t to be deterred. So she got dressed while Hubby got the bikes out and ready to go. He came in, COLD, and asked, “SuperGirl, are you SURE you are up for this today?”
“YEP!”
So off they went. The plan was for me to meet them at the school with the pickup truck so we could get her bike home (and Hubby could thaw out) but I fully expected a phone call from somewhere on their route. I had to drop Summer off at the high school for a one act play thing and then headed out to find them. I pulled up to the school and slowly made my way back into the neighborhood they would be riding through.
And then I saw them…
They were riding along… SuperGirl was smiling ear to ear. Her cheeks were pink and her hair was windblown, but when I asked how it was she said, “GREAT!!”
When she sets her mind to something… watch out!

Not really sure how to explain this one except that it’s really fun to tell 2-year-olds to do silly things and watch them actually do them! He was smelling Pickles and Mom’s feet…

Unfair

{i started this blog months ago while sitting in the carpool line. i am thinking i might just finish it up and post it today... since i'm sitting here waiting... in the carpool line. it is amazing what can change in just a matter of months. maybe all we need is a little perspective!}
Life is just not fair.
Our babies grow up too fast.
Homework takes up too much time. {but we are getting faster about it}
There aren't enough hours in the day. {there never will be}
Bids don't get won. {and some do}
Good people die.
Teachers don't give second chances. {but some do}
People don't admit when they are wrong.
Others never say they are sorry.
Chocolate has too many calories.
Working out requires sweating.
Spelling is hard.
Math is hard.
Reading is hard.
Texas is hot. {and sometimes it is too cold!}
And don't forget humid.
Everything costs money.
Growing old is inevitable.
Families are too spread out. {and sometimes they move closer!}
People PARK in the pickup line.
And life goes on anyway...
{this blog post was blogged on the run from my iPhone!}
contrasts
Being a mom is the greatest thing I’ve ever done.
Being a mom is the worst thing I’ve ever done.
How can both be true?
Loving my kids is the easiest thing in the world.
Loving my kids is the hardest thing in the world.
Again, how can both be true?
I would do anything for my kids.
But I’m tired of doing everything.
Being a mom is fulfilling, draining, joy giving, heart breaking, inspiring, and frustrating.
And I wouldn’t trade it for all the rice in China.
But I want to do it better.
You’d think that after almost 15 years I’d be pretty good at it.
Most days I think I do an okay job.
Today is one of those days I feel like a total failure.
I want to give up.
But I can’t give up.
I’m not finished.
There’s still work to do, encouragement to be given, lessons to be taught, hugs to be given, and fun to be had.
Lord, help me be the mom you want me to be!

If I could take a picture of what the inside of my car smells like, well, this would be it. And it’s all because we drove over a freshly dead one on the way home. ICK!
